Yasuo has never cared much for the spiritual aspects of his job as a divine artist at a shrine sacred to the Aitenu, the great guardian spirits of the land. He’s just there to paint. But when his teacher — the shrine’s master artist — steals the sacred artwork, causing the earth to shake and hail to fall from a clear sky, he seizes the chance to make his name and escape a life of administrative drudgery.
Armed with only a paint brush and the vague clues left by his master, Yasuo sets off into the wilderness to find the seven sacred pigments needed to recreate the stolen artwork. However, when a strange, one-armed young woman repeatedly saves his life from the spirits that lie in wait for him at every turn, he must decide whether he is on the right path, or whether the Aitenu themselves are the ones trying to stop him.
